Is it easy to learn for beginners?

Absolutely. Pickleball is one of the most beginner-friendly racket sports in the world. Most people are rallying within minutes of their first session. The smaller court size, slower ball speed, and simple rules make it easy to pick up while still rewarding advanced players with deep strategy.

What is the official court size?

An official pickleball court measures 20 feet wide by 44 feet long — the same for both singles and doubles play. For construction, a recommended total footprint including runoff space is 30 ft × 60 ft. The net is 36 inches at the posts and 34 inches at the centre.

Is pickleball family-friendly?

Yes — it's one of the most family-friendly sports around. Children, parents, and grandparents can all play together competitively and enjoyably. The social, low-impact nature of the game makes it perfect for mixed-age groups and community gatherings.

When is the launch and which cities are covered?

PickleBallers.in is rolling out across 9 major Indian cities. Prayagraj is the first launch — Phase 2 covers Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Phase 3 adds Pune, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Join our early access list to be the first to know about the launch date in your city.

Will coaching be available?

Yes. Our planned Coaching Academy will offer structured programmes for all levels — complete beginners, intermediate players, and competitive athletes. Coaching will be led by certified instructors with both technical instruction and match-play sessions.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No. We plan to have paddles, balls, and gear available for rental on-site, so you can try the sport without any upfront investment. We'll also have a pro shop for players who want to purchase their own premium equipment.

How is PickleBallers.in different from a regular club?

PickleBallers.in is built as a community-first platform, not just a facility. Our vision goes beyond courts — we're building a movement that includes coaching, tournaments, community events, player development, and eventually a national network connecting players across India.

Pickleball glossary: kitchen, dink, DUPR and more

A quick reference for pickleball language across rules, shots, strategy, and culture.

Kitchen: rulesThe non-volley zone (NVZ) — 7 ft from the net on each side. You can't volley while standing in it.
NVZ: rulesNon-Volley Zone — the official name for 'the kitchen'.
Side-Out: rulesWhen the serving team loses serve and the other team takes over.
Fault: rulesAny rule violation that ends the rally — out, into the net, double-bounce, foot in kitchen on a volley, etc.
Let: rulesHistorically: a serve that nicks the net and lands in. As of 2021, lets are LIVE — the rule was removed.
Rally: rulesThe exchange of shots between serve and the point ending.
Ace: rulesA serve the receiver fails to return — instant point for the server.
Dink: shotsA soft shot that arcs gently into the opponent's kitchen — the heart of strategic pickleball.
Drive: shotsA hard, low groundstroke that skims the net — aimed to push opponents back.
Volley: shotsHitting the ball out of the air, before it bounces. Only legal outside the kitchen.
Lob: shotsA high, arcing shot OVER opponents at the net — used to push them back to the baseline.
Third Shot Drop: shotsA soft, arcing shot from the baseline (your 3rd shot of the rally) that lands in the opponent's kitchen — neutralizing their net advantage.
ATP: shotsAround The Post — a shot that travels around the side of the net post instead of over the net. Legal!
Erne: shotsA volley taken right next to the net post by jumping or stepping AROUND the kitchen — surprise attack at the net.
Smash: shotsAn overhead put-away on a high ball — the pickleball equivalent of a slam.
Reset: shotsA defensive soft shot used to neutralize an opponent's attack — buys time to get back into position.
Stacking: strategyA doubles formation where both teammates set up on the same side of the court — usually to keep the strongest hand toward the middle.
Poaching: strategyWhen a player crosses over to intercept a ball that would otherwise go to their partner.
Soft Game: strategyPlaying with control and finesse — dinks, drops, and patience — vs. the 'power game' of drives and smashes.
Kitchen Line: strategyThe most important spot to be in pickleball — get there, and stay there.
OPA!: cultureA celebratory shout heard when the ball is hit after the third shot — marking that volleying is now allowed (two-bounce rule satisfied).
Pickled: cultureLosing 11-0 — the pickleball equivalent of getting shut out.
Bert: cultureAn Erne shot taken on the OPPOSITE side of the court — even more daring than a regular Erne.
